Contact and Biography

Gordon ("Zola") Edgar is the cheese monger for Rainbow Grocery Cooperative in San Francisco, California and has been since 1994. In 2005, "Saveur" magazine named Rainbow as one of the top 20 places in the country to buy cheese. Gordon has also been a panelist speaking on cheese issues at numerous industry cheese events over the last decade and is currently coordinating speakers for the 5th annual Cheesemaking Opportunities and Challenges Conference In Sonoma, CA March 6-8 2007. In 2005 he became a founding member of the California Artisan Cheese Guild.

Though he grew up knowing only Velveeta and Kraft Singles, his cheese knives have come to attract the attention of the Secret Service.

Gordon is also a proud member of the Worker Co-op community, serving on numerous conference planning boards, attending uncountable numbers of inter-cooperative meetings, as well as currently being on the Board of Directors of People’s Grocery in Oakland and a new national worker cooperative loan fund that is, thus far, without a formal name.
